Electrician Ron
United States
Приєднався 6 лют 2009
My name is Ron Pecina and I am the owner of Classic Electric of Point Pleasant, New Jersey. This page is about electrical work and the work that my business offers. I have been an electrician since 1990 when I enlisted in the United States Navy and became a Construction Electrician in the Seabees. This is how I got my start in this industry and I am proud to be a professional in this business. After nineteen years and working for several electrical contractors in the Union County area, I decided to get my state electrical license and business permit. In 2009, Classic Electric, LLC. became a reality and I've been doing the kind of work you'll be seeing in these videos ever since.
I'm an active member in the New Jersey Independent Electrical Contractors association (NJ-IEC) and an electrical instructor for our approved apprenticeship program in Somerset, New Jersey.

Great video - thank you! Looking at picking this up, still happy with yours? How’s the wear and tear on the bag after 2 years. Looking at maybe the blackout version of this bag. Not sure, so many warn of a black color tool bag - would like to hear your thoughts or that of others.
Yes I would highly recommend this TP XXL. It’s my every day carry for service. The tape measure clip on the front got snagged one day but it was totally my fault and it’s only a small test from the fabric. Everything else on it is still mint.
@@electricalron Thank you for your response! Since your in the trade, any thoughts or anyone you know have the blackout version of the top-xxl and complaints on cleanliness or vice versa with the color you have?
thanks so much for the information!

The panel looks really clean. I from Wisconsin I graduate electrical school .May now apprenticeship in residential electrician 3 years journeyman license how long to be a master electrician your opinion
Is there much difference between a homeline and a Eaton BR panel? My eletrican said was having trouble finding homeline panels and was wondering if I would be ok with an Eaton panel.
The water meter needed an electrical connection? Is that unusual?
Quack quack says the duck seal
Do you really want a fridge on GFCI there notorious for tripping
In Tx , that 4/0 SE Romex Cable for 200 Amp Services is not allowed for outside install ! Contractors will buy the cable and then strip off and remove the Outer Jacket Sheathing and the inner snake skin from the 4/0 AL Conductors and run the individual conductors up in the 2 '' Rigid Galvanized Steel Conduit Mast and out the attached Weatherhead for the Service Loop Connections.
Hi Ron, I have a question about backer board. I'm in PA and upgrading a service on property I just bought. It's mostly an open lot with bathrooms, a pavilion and some plugs. I removed the rusted rotted panel and plan on putting 2 -4x4 pressure treated posts in the ground with 5/4" decking horizontal to the 4x4's and putting a combo outdoor meter/breaker box with 2 new ground rods, (there were none before, just a wire into the ground stapled to the bottom of a rotted section of telephone pole). So the question, is the 5/4" pressure treated okay? should it be 2x4's? Painted plywood? Funny story for next time about the power being off "NOT" when I started working taking the stuff apart. Thanks,
Southwire EZLB200 Connector; 2"; Gray. Hi Ron love the videos did you ever use this LB Makes it easier when using 4/0 SE cable ? thanks Dave Murphy
Great video! One of the o key channels that shows the whole process. I’m over in Philly and the heat has been unreal. We’ve been in attics doing recessed lighting. Does NJ allow you to put the main at the bottom so you don’t have to run 4/0 from the bottom to the top? Or is that prohibited by that uniform code. We only have the 2017 NEC where I work
Building code also states that floor joists cannot have holes drilled less than 2 inches from the bottom of the edge. So always put your wires higher than 1 1/2 inches from the edge.
The grid can't take the EV power need and "they " won't improve it much. We will need 50 nuclear power plants to feed the future they seem to wish for. Remember, they are banning all natural gas appliances. Their plan is to deny you having a car in the future. If you are 20 years old now, I bet you will be denied a 2 car family or even a 1 car family by the time your 60.
What’s the reasoning for this customer to upgrade from 100 to 200 service ?
Not much has been updated at the house since it was built in the 1950's. A new kitchen, updated bathroom, maybe a master bedroom addition, etc. Clearly they'll require multiple new 15 and 20 amp circuits. Demand for electricity is forever growing and has been since it's inception.
@@electricalron can you upgrade to 200 amp if you still have some knob and tube ?
When the 2023 code adoption hits you will have to install a disco for a panel change with the new note In 230.85. In north jersey some inspectors are requiring it already
The North Jersey inspectors? Rules apply to all of NJ, not just Bergen, Essex and Passaic counties. The Uniform Construction Code which supersedes the NEC does not require an exterior disconnect for panel changes. It's only on "full service upgrades" and spells it out clearly. There's a link to the UCC in the description of every video I post.
Happy 4th of July, Ron 🍺🍺as I get ready to celebrate Canada Day FP, my brother has BE116-20 with AL wires. The 30 amp dryer breaker kept tripping. He wants to replace the breaker, not the unit. We've discussed it, but it's hard to convince him.
Very helpful video, thanks for sharing.
I bought a house in 2019 with a home inspection that stated “ one half of receptacle in living room not working “. I went to a hallway switch, flipped it up, and amazingly the receptacle now worked!
True story!
I'm Abigail kiss fan I never got to go to a concert be cause of my parents are Babtest but I have a lot of there lps
My only complaint would be that I would have liked to see the GFCI mounted at an ADA accessible height.
Why did you install a main breaker panel along with a main breaker disconnect? Is the exterior service entrance disconnect required by code now? Years ago if I was putting in a main breaker panel I would come directly out of the meter housing and right into the main breaker panel with my service kick. There wouldn't be any exterior disconnect unless the main panel was located more than 3 ft inside the dwelling. If so then we would use a main breaker exterior disconnect with an interior main lug panel.
That aluminum siding is "fun", I have it on my home.
Excellent Job Ron!
Thank you!
Thank you for this! Novice here…If the wiring is 12/2 grounded at all junctions, why is gfci necessary?
How much does this usually cost to do changing service from 100 to 200?
Is that a medium roof?
Retired service tech from Schneider electric now living in AZ. I recently had problems with my outdoor 200 amp service. Had to replace a 30 amp circuit breaker for my outdoor AC unit. I took a temperature reading of the outside of the box when the sun was going down and would hit the box. The temperature was 150 degrees F. I found the high temperature out here causes nuisance c!b tripping and c/b failures. Way different than PA.
Crazy having that equipment outside with the sin blazing down on it.
Florida Fans congratulations. Overall good post. Thanks
Ron, once again great video and content. Best regards from Chicago ...
Have a great weekend Big D!
How much does a service like this cost?
Hey Ron, how much does a job like this cost?
How much Ron?
In NC we use bare copper wire for ground rods and tie in the meter base
That's probably a utility requirement.
24:28 if it breaks in half they own both halves! 🤣🤣 JK
I was wondering about the cost to upgrade a 100 to 200 amps panel in 2024. The last time I had this done was almost 10 years ago.
$2500 or more.
Cool trick with 2 by 4
How much would cost me labor and parts boss? I need upgrade my old house build 1978. I am in Seattle wa
Northwest probably $6k-$8k
Good video. I would like to learn how to properly crimp those spade connectors as I have issues using screw connections with THHN stranded wire.
When you cut the alive service wire, which one you cut first?
Good morning Ron! My question is what were you talking about when you were saying to make sure that the transformer had a lower fault current protection than the disconnect breaker? Maybe I’m misunderstanding? I’ve never heard of that. I’m just curious as to what that is? Thanks in advance for your response. BTW, great content. I love your channel.
You do great work
Thanks for recommending minimum of 40 full size breakers for new panel installs. My panel is an old Square D QO with 200 amps but only has 30 breaker spaces with 6 of those allowing twin breakers. I don't have any double breakers yet but my panel is full due mostly to my electric heating system. I don't even have space for an EV charger right now even if i could afford an EV.
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Is there any minimum distance from the electric meter to the gas meter?
Not in an existing installation.
Thanks, I remember reading the PGE “green book” having all sorts of distance requirements in it, but of course, they are for new construction. I get the difference.
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching.
Love your videos as always! I like when my mains coming into the panel come in beside the lugs so i don't take up so much room in the side of the panel.
Sorry, but I do not get it… is this double tap situation when you are combining 2 circuits that respect the circuit load percentage? In certain regions double tapping is simply not allowed no matter the situation. Please if you can explain in more detail. Thanks
Soooooo loud I just bought one now in thinking no
We just add another breaker..and charge for it. Just to speed thing up
Awareness is important.
I was and electriction for maney years retired now but still have to do some side work
